Food & Beverage Sealing Solutions

Food and beverage operations run on precision, hygiene and uptime. Filling lines, bottling systems, CIP circuits, packaging equipment and processing machinery all depend on sealing and polymer components that perform consistently under conditions that combine chemical exposure, thermal cycling, washdown requirements and high-cycle mechanical loading. When a component fails on a filling line, the consequences extend beyond the maintenance cost — production stops, batch scheduling is disrupted, and the pressure to resolve the failure quickly overrides the ability to resolve it correctly.

Kaybin manufactures sealing and polymer components specifically for food and beverage applications, with material selection matched to the actual operating conditions of each application rather than a generic food-grade specification. The distinction matters because the correct material for a CIP-exposed diaphragm seal is not the same as the correct material for a high-speed mechanical cap gripper — and applying the same compound to both is how premature failure happens.

Where Standard Components Fail in Food & Beverage

The failure modes in food and beverage operations are predictable when the operating conditions are understood. Silicone is widely specified as the default food-grade compound — and correctly so for applications involving high temperatures or aggressive cleaning chemicals. In dynamic mechanical applications at ambient temperature with no chemical exposure, however, silicone's lower resilience and tear resistance make it the wrong choice. Natural rubber outperforms silicone in high-cycle dynamic applications where mechanical fatigue is the primary failure mode.

In CIP applications, the cleaning chemical determines the correct elastomer. EPDM handles alkaline CIP effectively. FKM is required for aggressive acid or solvent-based cleaning regimes. A component specified in the wrong compound for its CIP environment will degrade from the inside out, regardless of how well it seals initially.

In sanitary and hygienic piping systems, the seal profile geometry matters as much as the material. A seal that does not sit correctly in its housing creates a dead zone where product or cleaning chemical can accumulate — a hygiene risk that no material selection can solve. The correct seal for a sanitary application is one manufactured to the precise profile required by the fitting, in the correct compound for the media and cleaning regime.

Kaybin's Approach to Food & Beverage Sealing

Every component Kaybin manufactures for food and beverage applications starts with the operating conditions — media, CIP chemicals, temperature range, cycle frequency and mechanical loading profile. Material selection follows from the conditions, not from a catalogue default.

For filling and packaging line components — cap grippers, suction cups, shut-off rubbers, dosing pistons and drive bands — the selection criteria include cycle frequency, load profile, contact media and whether the application is ambient or elevated temperature. For process sealing — diaphragms, union seals, sanitary gaskets and mechanical seals for process pumps — the criteria extend to CIP compatibility, pressure rating and hygienic profile geometry.

Where OEM components are discontinued, carry unacceptable lead times or are only available as part of a complete replacement kit, Kaybin reverse-engineers from a worn sample or drawing and manufactures the replacement locally.

Application Proof — Packaging Line Cap Gripper Failure

A high-speed FMCG filling line was experiencing cap gripper failures within one month of installation. The machine had been supplied with standard silicone grippers — the default specification for food-grade applications. The operating conditions were ambient temperature with no chemical exposure, and the failure mode was mechanical fatigue from continuous high-speed rotational loading.

Kaybin developed the tooling to manufacture the cap grippers locally and produced a test batch in natural rubber — selected for its high resilience, superior tear resistance and energy absorption under dynamic mechanical load. The natural rubber grippers outlasted the original silicone components by six months, converting a monthly replacement cycle into a semi-annual one and eliminating unplanned downtime on the filling line.

The principle that resolved this failure applies across food and beverage applications — the premium material is not always the correct material. The right compound is the one matched to the actual operating conditions of the specific application.

Application Proof — Brewery Control Valve Seal Failure

Control valves on a large commercial brewery operation began leaking before scheduled maintenance. The OEM supplier provided components only as complete kits with a 6 to 8 week lead time. A leaking control valve cannot wait 6 to 8 weeks.

Kaybin reverse-engineered the seal components from worn samples provided by the maintenance team, designed the tooling, confirmed the operating pressures and temperatures, and manufactured replacement seals locally. The brewery moved from a reactive breakdown situation with an extended overseas supply lead time to a planned annual maintenance programme with spares available within days of an order.

Ten years after the initial reverse engineering, Kaybin continues to supply these components. The tooling is retained on-site and the components are reproduced to the same specification for each planned maintenance cycle.

  • Manufacturing & Heavy Industry

Kaybin supplies precision seals, gaskets, and polymer components that keep heavy machinery and production lines running. Our solutions are built for high loads, vibration, and continuous duty—reducing leaks, wear, and unexpected stoppages. When a part is non-standard or obsolete, we engineer the replacement so your plant stays in motion, not in maintenance.

  • Oil & Gas

Kaybin supplies seals and gaskets for upstream, midstream, and downstream operations where failure is not an option. Our components are engineered for high pressure, high temperature, and aggressive media—helping prevent leaks, protect people and equipment, and avoid costly shutdowns. When conditions are harsh and access is limited, you need sealing solutions you can fit once and trust.

  • Mining & Minerals

Kaybin seals and gaskets are built for the shock, dust, slurry, and vibration that destroy standard components. From crushers and screens to pumps and processing lines, our solutions resist abrasion, impact, and harsh chemicals—helping keep ore moving, not equipment in the workshop. When downtime is measured in tons lost, you need sealing you can rely on shift after shift.
