Polyurethane Buffers & Bump Stops

Kaybin manufactures custom polyurethane buffers and bump stops for end-of-travel and overload protection where rubber blocks or metal stops wear out, deform or damage equipment. Each buffer is moulded or machined to your drawing or sample to absorb energy, control deceleration and protect structures, frames and moving parts in demanding industrial and OEM environments.

Polyurethane buffers combine elastic energy absorption with improved wear resistance and dimensional stability compared with standard rubber stops, making them well suited to harsh industrial duty.

Function & Typical Applications

  • Absorbs impact at end-stop positions on conveyors, transfer cars and shuttles
  • Protects machinery frames, doors, guards and structures from repeated shock
  • Controls deceleration and rebound on moving equipment and lift mechanisms
  • Reduces noise and vibration compared with metal-to-metal contact
  • Used on conveyors, material-handling systems, presses, packaging lines, docking stops, loading bays and OEM machinery
  • Used where rubber bump stops crack under repeated shock, or where metal stops transmit impact directly into frames and supporting structures

Material & Design Options

Polyurethane buffers are produced from high-performance PU elastomers, with hardness and geometry selected to match your duty:

  • PU elastomer (Shore A range) for tuned stiffness, deflection and energy absorption
  • Solid, washer-style, cylindrical, conical or rectangular buffer designs
  • Options for bonded-to-metal plates, studs or inserts for secure mounting
  • Formulations selected for high impact, abrasion resistance, oil exposure or outdoor service

Compound, hardness and shape are chosen based on impact energy, stroke, frequency and operating environment.

Operating Conditions

Designed for:

  • Repeated impact, bumping and end-stop contact
  • Dynamic shock and vibration in tough industrial environments
  • Oily, wet, dusty or outdoor conditions where rubber fails prematurely
  • Temperature capability dependent on the selected polyurethane grade and duty cycle

Correctly specified polyurethane buffers and bump stops help prevent frame cracking, bent stops, noisy impacts and unplanned downtime.

Engineering Details Required

To specify the correct buffer or bump stop, provide:

  • Buffer style and dimensions (OD/ID/height or overall size, mounting details)
  • Impact mass, approach speed or estimated impact energy
  • Required deflection or maximum allowable stopping distance
  • Mounting method (plate, bolts, threaded studs, weld-on bracket, etc.)
  • Operating environment (oils, chemicals, water, temperature and outdoor exposure)

Kaybin then selects the appropriate polyurethane grade and buffer design and manufactures components to your exact specification for reliable impact protection in industrial and OEM equipment. These buffers form part of Kaybin's broader range of custom polyurethane engineering components.
